MAMS Rugby: Strong, Supportive, Teenage Girls in Action.

Marist Albion is pleased to continue to offer playing opportunities for young wahine of high school age. For the 2026 season, There are 2 options depending on player age and ability:

  • Senior Girls (U18) team, affectionately known as the MAMS. The MAMS train on a Thursday afternoon. This team is for Y11-Y13 players, and experiencedY9 and Y10 players who are wanting to play more competitive rugby. Younger (Y9 & Y10) players require dispensation to this grade, supported by parental approval, medical and competency assessment.

  • Junior Girls (U15) team, a new grade offered by the CRFU for 2026, and is suited for Y9 and Y10 players new to rugby or wanting to grow in confidence and experience.

Senior and Junior Girls games are 15-a-side teams with games played on Saturday mornings around the city from early May through til August.

The MAMS senior girls continue to be a successful team, including an unbeaten 2022 season, and runners up in the Div 1 section in 2023. The team philosophy is all about participation, having fun, making new friends, learning and building on individual players’ skill set, getting fit, strong and confident, keeping safe, and of course all the other benefits that come from playing for a team in the fresh Canterbury air during winter! Most of all we are here to foster a life-long love of the game, and we welcome you to come and be part of our MAMS and the wider Marist Albion family

We are super excited to see the Junior Girls inaugural season commence for 2026. Building on the development of Primary & Intermediate aged girls Monday Night Rugby, the Junior Girls grade provides a natural progression for girls as they enter high school, and Marist Albion are proud to offer the opportunity for players to join Saturday girls only club based rugby.

    Senior Girls:

To be eligible you should be Under 18 as of the 1st of April 2026, OR, attending high school in Years 11, 12 or 13. Please note however, as this is a club competition, you do not have to be attending high school to be part of a team, provided you are age eligible. If you are Year 9 or Year 10 and have experience playing rugby, we can apply for a dispensation for you to play in the grade.

    Junior Girls:

To be eligible, you should be under 15 as of the 1st of April 2026, OR, attending high school in Years 9 or 10.

    Other Options:

Marist Albion also offers other rugby teams for female players in all Junior, Teenage, and Senior grades as follows:

Please reach out to discuss further.

  • Fees for the season are set at $90 per player, and we are hopeful that through funding we will be able to provide black playing shorts and training t-shirts free for each player in the team.  Jerseys are provided (and laundered) each week.  Playing socks and other club merchandise can be purchased from Impakt via the link here: https://maristalbion.impakt.co.nz/
