2020 Shamrock Club

2020 Shamrock Club Launch

Well, we have had some positive news from the CRFU as the competition looks to begin with Preseason fixtures 13 June and the Premier 1 Competition 20 June. Premier Reserve, Premier Colts and Division 3 will all start 20 June with Formats and Draw TBC. Our Junior Club will be underway on the 27th June, again with more information out soon.

Financially we are doing as much as we can to minimize the impact of COVID-19. However like other grassroots sports clubs in NZ we are heavily reliant on trust funding, which has stopped. Therefore, we are are reaching out to our community to re-new or join our Shamrock Social Club. The membership cost is $50 and proceeds will go a long way to ensuring our financial viability this season. This is a fantastic way to continue to support the club. To join, please follow this link: https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/73983

Some of you may be past or present business sponsors and we thank you for all your support.

Benefits of the Shamrock Club include increased communication around our season ahead and invitations to club nights that will occur going forward, as restrictions are eased. Next year we also plan to celebrate 25 Years of the Marist Albion Rugby Club. We want to make sure you receive information of all the opportunities to mark this milestone with us. I encourage you to spread the word, and help us get in contact with anyone who would love to be involved.

Furthermore, if you would like to get involved in the club and give back, we are always on the lookout for new volunteers, with this season being more important than ever! Roles vary and we are more than willing to work with you and will take any help we can get!

If you haven’t been keeping tabs on the club in recent times then I’m happy to inform you that;

  • Over the last year we have built our capability within the club recruiting premier players including 2020 Captain Declan McCormack and quality coaches including Former All Black and club-man, Ben Blair. We have seen success, including 2 DCL shield tenures in 2019, and we are confident at Premier One level we can beat anyone on any given day.
  • Our Junior Club continues to be highly organised with quality coaches across the grades. With great sporting experiences here, players like Dominic Gardiner are returning to the club after High School.
  • On one particularly special Saturday last year teams across all senior grades recorded wins!

This success is largely due to the junior committee, club executive members and our Rugby Operations Group. The group has been working behind the scenes for almost 3 years now to reconnect to our community and are continuing to do so with guidance from a strong executive committee.

A lot of work during preseason and lock-down has been put in by players and volunteers alike and we excited to get back out on the field representing you all. I have attached for you our 2020 Premier 1 Wider Group. We look forward to your continued support and we hope to see you on the sidelines, (govt restrictions allowing) in the near future.
